Axis Tilts

Improper Axis Tilts can cause all manner of fat and topped shots as well as trajectories that are too high.

The corrected Axis Tilts in the following pictures produced a steeper angle of attack, a more delofted clubface and shots that were compressed and launched at a lower angle.

Are you saying that the key to a steeper angle is less axis tilt? How did you get these players to do that?

A more vertical axis will lead to a steeper angle of attack. The KEY is HOW to get the optimum amount of axis tilt.

That is the key. How do you do that? I have the same problem- not coming on to the call steep enough. I make divots, but they are usually at or before the ball. I tend to hit the ball like Bobby does on your earlier pics. Thank you for any help.

There are 3 centers of gravity in the body.

You want to FEEL like you are moving them ahead of the ball without rotating.

This is not a one size-fits-all instruction. Some students may need to FEEL like they are moving backwards.

Thank you Justin. I have been looking at your other posts and see that you like the stationary head concept. I tend to leave my head back and I think has something to do with creating a steeper angle of attack. What are the 3 centers of gravity ?

The stationary head concept is vitally important.

It accurately returns the clubhead to the ball all the time because of the centered arc it produces.

If the head sways (horizontal motion) or bobs (vertical motion), then the arc is not centered, requiring compensation in some form.

For some players, the moving head is the CAUSE of symptoms like a bent left wrist.

The least you do in the golf swing in the least amount of time will cause lower scores.

The 3 centers of gravity:

1. The Head
2. The Sternum
3. The Hips

Thank you again for the help. I understand the 3 centers and how they need to get ahead of low point in order to make a descending blow on the ball. The pictures alone have helped my understanding tremendously. Too bad I don't live in Singapore- otherwise I would come see you for a lesson!

The pleasure is mine ml.

Whereabouts do you live?

I travel around the region as well as to the US to teach.

Who knows, I may have the good fortune of dropping by where you live.

I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It would be great to go to a Medicus school that you were a part of. Do you do any of the schools here?

Justin Tang said...

Yes, I do Medicus Schools over in the USA.

The locations are at Las Vegas as well as Florida.
